Challenge EMT Jaune / A France Patchwork's Challenge

A challenge for being together, whatever the situation, and all sewing the same color the same week.

Last Wednesday, the color of the week was green. This Wednesday, yellow was announced. I don’t actually have much yellow fabrics, I thought I had more...
I stayed on the idea of the pincushion, like last week, with this time a Braid pattern.

---

A quick tutorial in pictures to show how I did it:

Fabrics: 3 different yellow, and grey for the background.

For a pincushion finished size: 4'' x 4'' (10 x 10 cm, I quilt using inches, so I converted to cm but be careful it's less exact):
  • 1 carré gris / grey square : 4.5'' x 4.5'' (11,4 x 11,4 cm environ / approximately)
  • 1 bande grise / grey stripe : 1.5'' x 4.5'' (3,8 x 11,4 cm env.)
  • 1 bande grise / grey stripe : 2.5'' x 4.5'' (6,35 x 11,4 env.)
  • 3 bandes jaunes / yellow stripes : 1'' x 7'' (2,5 x 17,5 cm env.)
  • 3 bandes grises / grey stripes : 5/8'' x 7'' (1,6 x 17,5 cm env.)

Sew each grey stripe to a yellow one. Iron seams open. Now we have Stripe A, Stripe B, and Stripe C.

I drew the braid on square paper: 1'' x 4'' (yes I know, it doesn’t make sense: I use square paper in cm to trace in inches...)
Then it's paper piecing method, alternating the strips A, B and C, we get:

The side stripes are sewn to the braid, then the back of the pincushion.

After turning inside out and filling the pincushion, sew the opening with small stitches.

Et voilà !

4'' x 4'' (10 x 10 cm)

  10. Using grid paper makes sense. Best to sketch things out before cutting the actual fabric.

  13. Hi Frederique! How clever and CUTE. I just LOVE the braid. Holy moly, that paper piecing project is small. You are so talented and I'm glad you showed us last week's pincushion. Don't they just look adorable together. Thanks so much for linking up this week. ~smile~ Roseanne

  14. That is very pretty :-) It is a lot like these crazy times. Grey for all the uncertainty and the gold for all the selfless work from doctors and nurses.
