Hawaiian quilts characteristically have a central design that is cut out of a piece of solid color cloth that has been folded into eighths, like a snowflake pattern quilt. The created radiating design is stitched onto a white or a strong contrasting background, with echo quilting around the cloth's edges.

Le quilting en écho, fait main ou machine, est un style de quilting où les lignes suivent les contours des motifs cousus, comme des ondulations ou un écho de la forme.
Echo quilting is a style of work, either carried out by hand or machine, in which the quilting lines are running along and parallel to the outline of the patterns, like the ripples or an echo of the shape.

Ooh, I had no idea that was a whole thing. Great quilts.
RépondreSupprimerI had to go and read the 'rules'. I've made an applique quilt that used the snowflake technique but it only went as far as looking like a sort of cross. I do love the echo quilting style. Especially with these quilts.

Magnifiques quilts.
RépondreSupprimerHawaiian quilts are truly amazing! Great pictures! :)
RépondreSupprimerThis alphabet "tour" through quilting tips is really fun! And wow - LOOK at that stingray quilt! I've made one Hawaiian mini as a gift for a friend, years ago. I really need to make one for myself.
RépondreSupprimerThe manta ray one really caught my eye! Cool! Made me think of Moana!
RépondreSupprimerI love the Hawaiian quilts! I think the echo quilting around the central motif looks like giant waves splashing the shoreline of a Hawaiian island. :-)
RépondreSupprimerI used to live in Hawaii and these are an excellent representation of the colors, vibe, and culture. Well done! - Dragons & Spaceships
RépondreSupprimerBeautiful quilt designs you had shared. Never knew of Hawaiian quilts are so colorful and full of flowers, fruits and nature.
RépondreSupprimerThe more I quilt, the more I appreciate all kinds of quilts. Hawaiian quilts would not have resonated with me as a new quilter, but now I find them breathtaking.
RépondreSupprimerспасибо!
RépondreSupprimerThese designs look similar to applique work done in Gujarat in India - lots of florals and nature-based motifs. Lovely!
