J'aime / Things I like 💖 01/21

After Tuesday's list, Thursday's list!

I think this is a good year to start listing the things I like, the things that make me feel good, all the positive things that counterbalance the negative. I made up my mind after a training course I organized for teachers to help them manage emotions and stress in this difficult time, a health crisis and a violation of the values of our Republic. The positive psychology coach gave them relaxation and breathing exercises, and talked about positive reinforcement.

In the form of very simple exercises, the idea is to train the brain to be positive, and give less importance to the negative.
I like the "3 kifs" exercise: take 5 minutes a day and write down 3 moments that I enjoyed during my day. A kif is a French slang word meaning an event, encounter, sensation or image that does good and allows us to identify what makes us happy.

Everyday gratitude changes our brain and triggers a cocktail of hormonal secretions that make us happy, allow us to live longer, and significantly improve our physical and psychological health. It would be a shame to deprive ourselves of it 😄
So here I go, and I decided to write a post once a month, to share what I like or love.

👍👍👍👍👍

... and the visio with the family! It was the highlight of the holidays, when everyone made themselves available to share a moment together, despite the distance. A huge thank you! 💓💓

💗 Mousse au chocolat / Chocolate mousse
Haaaaaaaaaaaa, la mousse au chocolat de François ! Un bonheur à elle toute seule ! Miam !

Haaaaaaaaaaa, François' chocolate mousse! A happiness all by itself! Yummy!

Speaking of François, no gratitude without thinking of him. My love, my support, my #1 fan. He does everything to make my life easier... thank you!

💗 Neige / Snow

It's cold but how beautiful! Seeing the snow falling is always a wonder, a resurgence of childhood memories, and a pure pleasure! I love the light of the snow, when it sparkles in the sun, when it covers everything in velvety white, even at night the light is soft!

💗 Chaud / Warm

I love the heat! In winter everything is good to take: sticking to the burning radiator, drinking a good hot tea... hmmm, intense happiness!

💗 Puzzle / Jigsaw

Jigsaws are my little moments of relaxation, once a week I like to do one. To always have some on hand, the easiest way is to create them yourself! I had the idea to take pictures of our travels and turn them into a puzzle. They are on Le Journal de bord de Croque Pomme, our travel blog, to share them with all those who like to do puzzles 😉 (wink to my mother-in-law!)
Allez on s'en fait un ? / Let's do one!

💗 Quilt

I love everything about the process of creating a quilt, every step of the way I tell myself that I love this step! But it's true, and I'm so grateful to be able to sew, with a good machine, good material, a dedicated piece... happiness!

💗 Mini cactus

This little cactus has a story: it is a gift that all the guests at the wedding of Chloé, François' goddaughter, received in April 2016. It was presented in a very small glass bottle, 1 1/4'' high, and the cactus itself was barely 1/4'' high. Since then, every year I send a photo to Chloé to follow its growth. I really like this mini cactus!

In July when I launched the quilt along, I had the surprise to be followed by more than 250 people in the adventure. Thank you all for your enthusiasm, and the friendships that were made online!

💗 Amis en vrai / Friends in real life

Last but not least, go one more for this list: my friends for real! Thank you for being there, some of you on a daily basis 😘

What are you thankful for today?

  1. I very much enjoyed this post, so thank you for sharing! Each year at Christmas, my brother and I give each other puzzles, but we try to find the hardest ones we can. This year, he gave me a teeny tiny puzzle with over 200 pieces. I gave him a two-sided puzzle. Too bad I can't bring them over to you to enjoy!

  3. I'm thankful for you Frederique... the pic of you and your man is so lovely... it's warm and shows the connection that we all need... we are grateful that you joined in today and hopefully we'll see you all year as you remind us to look for the good we have. LeeAnna

  4. It is good to keep track of what brings you joy. It was actually part of the assignment in the English class I covered today.

  5. Great post. They have been advertising gratitude journals, some are religious, but some aren't. You are supposed to write down 3 things every morning that make you happy or that you are thankful for. I love snow, it seems to just create a hush to the world. Like earth takes a deep breath and lets it out slowly.

  8. Kifs - I like that word! It would be nice to get a little more snow here. It's just grey outside right now. Lots of good likes (and I like that I tried reading some of it in my pathetic French!). :-)

  13. So glad you linked up to TToT. I enjoyed reading all the things for which you are grateful. I love how you take a photo of that little cactus each year to send to Chloé (kind of a reminder of her special day too).
