I'm so pleased to meet you! I'm Frédérique, a French girl (well, when we reach 48 years old, are we still a girl? Hmmm...), living in North-East of France. I'm a teacher, a trainer of trainers.

I live here!
Je suis là !

Hi! Here I am ;)
Bonjour ! C'est moi ;-)

My hometown is in the Alps, but I used to travel a lot, sometimes during long periods. I visit US and Canada for 6 years, traveling with a sailboat, and for 6 months with an RV across the country, visiting nearly all the National Parks! It's where I learnt to quilt.

All began in Tahiti, French Polynesia. I was living there and took interest at the local patchwork, the tifaifai. An art which fascinated me, by the beauty of the patterns, inspired by local fauna and flora, and the meticulous hand stitching. In 2005, I made a tifaifai pa'oti: 2 large pieces of fabric sewn together in applique.

My very first patchwork!
Mon tout premier patch!

After that, we visited Hawaiian Islands, Washington State, British Columbia, California, so many inspiring places for quilting! Quilt shops and classes, libraries full of wonderful books, I was delighted! I learned how to appliqué, to piece, to quilt, the traditional and modern way.

At the beginning I had very few space inside the sailboat for quilting, but now I'm living in a house, with my sewing studio! Much more convenient ;)

Inside the sailboat, layering the top and the border where the bed should be!

In the house, a sight of a corner of my sewing space. Much bigger!

Since 2005, I made some quilts, all given to friends and family! I started a blog then, for keeping a record of all of them. This one, Celtic, was given to my mother-in-law in 2007, and I love to see it on her wall!

An overview of my quilts:
Un aperçu de mes quilts :

I'm not a super productive quilter, I made few quilts, but very often only one or two at once. Very few work in progress left aside and forgotten!
I love to learn new techniques, and recently:

  7. Celtique, he is stunning. How brave and with a lot of perseverance to quilt on a boat. I am sure your studio is so much easier. A wonderful selection of your quilting, and I also really enjoy applique. Lovely to "meet " you.

  8. What fun to learn more about you and see lots of your beautiful projects, Frederique! It's hard to imagine making a quilt while living in a boat - I enjoyed seeing the photos of where you worked!

  9. Oh Frederique, it is so nice to get to know you. It is commendable that you managed to create beauty within the limited confines of a boat. I am heartened that there are still some things about America that can inspire folks across the pond. Machine binding is fast and strong - I love it!!!

  13. Bonjour! Great to meet you, gosh my french is not what it used to be, I tried to read the English first and then the French, ha ha, I remember some words and it's easier to read than to speak.... I've been to France several times as a kid and up in the mountains too I think, I'm trying to think of what painter's studio we saw on a school trip from Denmark, I've also been to Paris a few times with my parents and with my mom when I turned 18!
Great quilts you've made, keep going at it! where do you get your fabrics? I remember this french market in Provence I visited and now I wish I had bought some fabrics or a skirt! Oh well C'est la vie! That's life!

    1. Hi Bea! My English is not that good, and I don't accurately translate French to English ;)
As I lived 18 years in French Polynesia (yes, my post doesn't say everything about me, it would be too boring ;)), I bought a lot of fabrics there. Since I returned in France, I get them from fabric stores in Paris or closer to my place, and from events like the "Salon du tissu" (France, Belgium, Luxemburg), or the "Carrefour Européen du Patchwork" very soon in France (Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines, Alsace). Great places to buy a lot of fabric ;))
