Link party: Patchwork & Quilts #153 📌

Bonjour, et bienvenue ici !
Hi, welcome here!

⭐⭐🏡⭐⭐

Back from a few days of vacation with my family, I'm taking advantage of the big weekend to move forward with the QAL Houses, my Village de Provence. I'm at the quilting stage.

I bought a thin polyester batting, found a fabric in my stash for the backing, ironed everything well to avoid as many wrinkles as possible, and spray basted it:

I've been thinking about quilting for a while now, with the idea of lines radiating from the sun toward the houses. I was planning on straight lines, or winding lines, running from the center to the edges. And then at the last moment, I decided on a spiral.

Then, the choice of the thread. All the shades went through it! I pulled out spools of yellow, blue, beige, gray, but nothing really fit. The ideal would have been a totally neutral, invisible thread.
And that's when I remembered 💡 (but yes, of course!) that I have spools of fine nylon thread. I had quilted the Celtic quilt with smoke-colored nylon thread, and I remember buying lighter spools too, of clear thread.

It's a thin and slippery thread, and I had to do some tension tests so that the bobbin thread (a classic white cotton thread) wouldn't show on the front. Once all that was adjusted, the spiral came together very quickly.
I started with a 3/4'' (1,9 cm) width between the lines, then I increased progressively by 1/8'' (4 mm), until a width of 1 inch 3/8 (3,5 cm) for the last lines.

I had already used the spiral pattern for Vega. This time I moved the start a little off center and it looks better, I think 😊

The temperature quilts are coming along too, I'm starting to get pretty organized 😋
Here's a look at my sewing table, with the 7-day temperature reading chart, and the fabric strips needed:

  4. The spiral quilting emphasizes the thought - My home is the center of my world. It is beautiful. The terrazzo floor is similar to the one in my childhood home in India. I don't see such floors in the US. So for more than one reason your blogpost reminds me of home. Have a fun weekend!

  5. It's nice if the thread is not visible. But in some cases, thread too adds beauty to the product, is it not?

  17. Your village is fabulous, Frédérique! I love how the quilting lines grow farther apart as they move away from the sun; it adds to the sense of distance between the sun and the houses below. Great choice with the invisible nylon thread, too. So exciting to return here and see how far this project has come along for you!
