My design wall is back up! 😊This panel is 71'' wide and 50'' tall - a size that works well for me to organize and rearrange my work-in-progress blocks over and over again.
This design wall consists of three panels of insulation taped together and covered with a piece of batting folded over to the back. I explained how I made it in this post back in 2018. Since then, I have covered the batting with a large piece of fleece, to which the fabrics "stick" much better.

Mon mur de conception de quilts est de nouveau en place ! 😊
Ce panneau mesure 180 cm de large et 126 cm de haut, une taille qui me convient bien pour organiser et réorganiser à l'infini les blocs en cours de réalisation.My design wall is back up! 😊
Ce mur de conception est composé de 3 panneaux d'isolant scotchés les uns aux autres et recouvert d'un molleton rabattu sur l'envers. J'avais expliqué sa fabrication dans cet article, en 2018. Depuis, j'ai recouvert le molleton d'un grand coupon de polaire, sur laquelle les tissus "collent" beaucoup mieux.
Je me suis posée la question de garder le molleton dessous ou le retirer. Je le garde pour plusieurs raisons :
- esthétique : la polaire est fine et on verrait la jonction des panneaux à travers
- design : fine donc légèrement transparente, et la couleur un peu rosée des panneaux d'isolation se verrait. Je préfère un support blanc pour que ça n'impacte pas la couleur des blocs disposés sur le panneau
- pratique : j'épingle parfois le modèle ou des notes sur mon mur, et le molleton fait une couche supplémentaire bienvenue pour protéger les panneaux
- logistique : le molleton bien tendu et fixé maintient l'ensemble des 3 panneaux en un tout, plus compact, et la polaire pourra être changée au besoin sans avoir à toucher à l'intégrité du panneau.

I wondered whether to keep the batting underneath or remove it. I’m keeping it for several reasons:
- Aesthetics: The fleece is thin, and the seams between the panels would show through
- Design: Since it’s thin, it’s slightly transparent, and the pinkish color of the insulation panels would show through. I prefer a white backing so it doesn’t affect the color of the blocks arranged on the design wall
- Practicality: I sometimes pin the pattern or notes to it, and the batting provides a welcome extra layer of protection for the panels
- Logistics: since the batting is tightly stretched and secured, it holds all three panels together as a single, more compact unit, and the fleece can be replaced as needed without compromising the integrity of the panel.
Mon panneau était fixé au mur de mon atelier à Chaumont par des crochets et des punaises, puis après le déménagement à Montpellier et le nouveau mur étant trop dur pour des punaises, il a été accroché à des attaches adhésives Command.
My design wall was attached to the wall of my studio in Chaumont with hooks and thumbtacks, but after I moved to Montpellier and since the new wall was too hard for thumbtacks, it was hung using Command adhesive hooks.
Probably due to the heat, after four years of loyal service, the adhesive hooks gave out in early June 😢
I needed a more permanent solution for hanging the design wall on the wall. I bought ten hooks that were the same thickness as the panel (1''), and François really helped me with the rest (or was it actually me who helped François? 😁)
Voilà l'installation terminée : trois crochets soutiennent le panneau en bas, trois autres sur le dessus le maintiennent contre le mur et enfin deux crochets - un de chaque côté - finissent de maintenir l'ensemble 👇

Une solution plus pérenne pour fixer le panneau au mur s'imposait. J'ai acheté 10 crochets de l'épaisseur du panneau (2,6 cm), et François m'a bien aidée pour la suite (ou plutôt c'est moi qui ait aidé François ? 😁)
Here is the completed installation: three hooks support the panel at the bottom, three others at the top hold it against the wall, and finally, two hooks - one on each side - secure the whole thing in place 👇
The three bottom hooks are screwed into the wall; the others are attached with Command adhesive hooks and can therefore be removed if I need to take the panel down, for example to replace the fleece.
Les 3 crochets du bas sont vissés dans le mur, les autres sont fixés avec des adhésifs Command et de fait sont amovibles au cas où j'ai besoin de descendre le panneau, pour changer la polaire par exemple.
Un des crochets sur le côté, non vissé 👆 Les attaches adhésives tiennent bien, même sur le revêtement pas lisse du mur !
Hourra, mon mur de conception est de nouveau opérationnel ! (danse de la joie 🎉 !)

Installing the design wall counts as a session - even though it didn't take more than an hour, it's still pretty physically demanding! Luckily, François has the right tools for the job, and with the two of us working together, it went pretty smoothly.

Stats de la semaine écoulée, et projection pour la suivante :
🎯 Je garde le même objectif cette année : faire de la couture deux jours par semaine, au moins 15 minutes à chaque fois. Je participe ainsi à "Stitching Stuff", organisé par Kate. C’est un rythme qui me semble raisonnable et qui s’adapte bien à mon travail, aux entraînements sportifs et aux imprévus du quotidien.
Si j'en ai l'occasion, je ferais une liste de priorités à réaliser d'ici la semaine prochaine, et participer ainsi à "To Do Tuesday" organisé par Carol.
🚩⏩ Cette semaine j'ai cousu ② jours
La fixation du mur de conception compte pour une bonne séance ; même si ça n'a pas pris plus d'une heure, c'est quand même assez sportif ! Heureusement François a les bons outils qui vont bien, et à deux ça s'est plutôt bien passé.
J'ai un petit peu avancé sur les pièces de la rose (que l'on voit sur le mur de conception). J'attends l'après-midi pour aller dans mon atelier, il est orienté Est et est plein soleil le matin. En ce moment toute la France suffoque sous une vague de chaleur exceptionnelle, et si le Sud a été un peu épargné jusque là, il fait quand même 30° à l'extérieur dès 8h. Les cigales s'en donnent à cœur joie ! Je laisse donc le soleil et la lumière trop vive passer leur chemin et je peux profiter de mon atelier l'après-midi.

Past week's numbers and projections for the coming week:
🎯 I'm sticking with the same goal this year: sewing two days a week, for at least 15 minutes each time. I'm taking part in "Stitching Stuff" organized by Kate. It's a pace that seems reasonable to me and fits in well with my work, sports training, and the unexpected events of everyday life.
If I get the chance, I’ll make a list of priorities to tackle by next week, and that way take part in "To Do Tuesday" organized by Carol. 🚩⏩ This week I sewed ② days
I have made a little progress on the rose pieces (which you can see on the design wall). I'm waiting until the afternoon to go to my quilting room, it faces east and gets full sun in the morning. Right now, all of France is sweltering under an exceptional heat wave, and while the south has been spared somewhat so far, it’s still 30° outside as early as 8 a.m. The cicadas are singing their hearts out! So I let the sun and the harsh light pass me by, and I can enjoy my studio in the afternoon.
