Ce petit quilt (71 cm x 71 cm) est inspiré du modèle Labyrinthe de Debbie Maddy. J'ai modifié l'étoile centrale et la taille. Le tissu fleuri fait partie du lot de fat quarters offerts par Jody (les autres tissus de ce lot ont été utilisés pour le BB quilt Focus)

This small quilt (28'' x 28'') is inspired by Debbie Maddy's Labyrinth pattern. I modified the central star and the size. The floral fabric is part of the fat quarters offered by Jody (the other fabrics in this lot were used for the Baby quilt Focus).

Partant de ce tissu multicolore, j'ai trouvé dans mon stock de tissus un jaune, un rose et un bleu clair qui sont coordonnés avec les fleurs. Le bleu foncé, c'est juste pour ajouter un peu de contraste.

Starting with this multicolored fabric, I found a yellow, a pink and a light blue in my fabric stash that match the flowers. The dark blue was chosen to add some contrast.

Ce quilt est largement composé de carrés bicolores, et les 4 du centre ont été le point de départ de la construction. Je n'ai pensé que bien après qu'il aurait été plus simple, et plus joli, de remplacer ces 4 carrés bicolores par un carré dans un carré. Plus joli parce que le tissu fleuri aurait été un un seul morceau au lieu de 4 coupés et reconstitués 😏

This quilt is largely made up of half-square triangles, and the 4 HST in the center were the starting point for the construction.
It didn't occur to me until much later that it would have been simpler, and prettier, to replace these four HST with a Square in a Square. Prettier because the floral fabric would have been a single piece instead of four cut and sewn back together 😏

J'ai commencé par faire tous les carrés bicolores, avec les méthodes des "8 d'un coup" de mon blog et "4 à la fois" de Suzy Quilts. 

Les formules pour couper les tissus sont simples (en inches) :

• Formule x8 : (taille du bloc fini ❌ 2) ➕ 1 ¾''
• Formule x4 : taille du bloc non fini ➗ 0.64

I started by making all the HST, using the “8 at once” methods from my blog and “4 at a time” from Suzy Quilts.
The formulas for cutting the fabrics are simple:

• Formula 8 at once: (finished size ❌ 2) ➕ 1 ¾''
  
• Formula 4 at a time: unfinished size ➗ 0.64

Les motifs de ce blanc ton-sur-ton sont très discrets, c'est même assez souvent difficile de reconnaître l'endroit de l'envers ! Je vérifie à chaque fois avant de coudre... et ouf, pas de tissu à l'envers 😏

The patterns on this tone-on-tone white are very discreet, and it's often hard to tell right from wrong! I check every time before sewing... and phew, no fabric on the wrong side 😏

Le tour suivant permet de voir le premier entrelac, le motif prend forme 👆

Le quilting est très simple, dans les coutures : d'abord le losange du centre, puis tous les contours du tissu blanc. Le reste ressort bien !

J'ai utilisé un molleton en polyester, très épais : 1/2 inch d'épaisseur (1,3 cm). En lumière rasante, on voit encore mieux le relief 👇

The quilting is very simple, in the seams: first the center diamond, then all the contours of the white fabric. The rest stands out!

I used a very thick polyester batting: 1/2 inch thick (1.3 cm). In low-angled light, you can see the relief even better 👇

Arrivé à ce stade du quilting, je ne voyais pas quoi ajouter de plus, et surtout s'il fallait en ajouter davantage. J'ai laissé passer la nuit (le dicton dit vrai, elle porte souvent conseil !) et le lendemain je me concentrée sur la bordure. Au minimum il me fallait une couture tout autour, au ras, avant de couper le surplus de molleton et de tissu de dos. 

Et puis je me suis dit qu'un écho autour du dernier entrelac pourrait être bien : c'est parti pour des lignes qui suivent le motif, espacées d'environ un inch (2,5 cm) les unes des autres.

Having reached this stage of the quilting, I couldn't see what more to add, and especially if more was needed. I let the night pass (as the saying goes, sleep on it!) and the next day I concentrated on the border. At the very least, I needed to sew all the way around, flush, before trimming the excess fleece and backing.
And then I thought an echo around the last interlace might be nice: off I went with lines that follow the pattern, spaced about an inch (2.5 cm) apart.

Mmm. Bof. Et sans faire autour de la pointe fleurie ?

Mmm.So-so. And without sewing around the floral point?

Ah oui, là ça me plaît. Il y a des plis, mais j'aime bien cette bordure !

Oh yes, I like that one. There are wrinkles, but I like this border!

Il ne reste plus qu'à faire la bande de finition. En jaune ?

Les 3 couleurs se retrouvent bien dans le tissu fleuri (jaune, bleu clair et rose) mais le jaune est déjà assez présent avec ce carré épais, et ce serait bien de rappeler les autres couleurs une dernière fois.

Alors, bleu ? rose ?

Pour un BB quilt non genré : les deux !!

All that's left is the binding. In yellow?
The 3 colors are well represented in the floral fabric (yellow, light blue and pink), but the yellow is already quite prominent with this thick square, and it would be nice to recall the other colors one last time. 

So, blue? pink?

For a gender-neutral Baby Quilt: both!

Deux bords roses, deux bords bleus, qui se rejoignent dans les angles. Très simple à faire. J'ai commencé par un angle comme celui de la photo ci-dessus 👆, cousu la bande rose d'un côté puis la bande bleue de l'autre, et terminé par le dernier angle.

Two pink edges, two blue edges, meeting at the corners. Very simple to make. I started with a corner like the one in the photo above 👆, sewed the pink binding on one side, then the blue binding on the other, and finished with the last corner.

J'ai fait comme pour tous les autres BB quilts : la bande de finition est cousue à la machine, depuis le devant, puis rabattue sur l'arrière et cousue toujours depuis le devant, dans le pli.

I did the same as for all the other Baby Quilts: the binding is machine sewn from the front, then folded over the back and sewn again from the front, in the fold.

Pour le dos, j'ai trouvé dans mon stock de tissus ce mètrage imprimé oiseaux et fleurs. Il contraste un peu avec la douceur du tissu fleuri du devant, mais je trouve qu'il va bien avec !

For the back, I found this bird and flower print pattern in my stash. It contrasts a little with the softness of the floral fabric on the front, but I think it goes well with it!

Et voilà, il est prêt à rejoindre la pile des BB quilts qui vont être offerts à l'hôpital !

And now it's ready to join the pile of Baby Quilts to be donated to the hospital!
