This pattern is made only with squares, composed of half square triangles. We will therefore cut and sew a lot of pieces, 192 squares exactly, whatever the final size of the quilt is.
I propose you to make this pattern with the Magic 8 HST method, which can be done with a sewing machine as well as by hand.
All of the following instructions will be based on this method. You are free to use another method (templates, Accuquilt, method for sewing 2 or 4 HST at once, ...).
Un peu d'organisation / Let's be organized
Etiquettez vos tissus A, B, C et D, selon la correspondance du modĂšle :
A = blanc du modĂšle, B = gris, C = noir, D = rouge.
Here is the table showing the measurements of the pieces to be cut, depending on the size of the quilt you choose.
For example, I made the Baby size, and I cut 7'' squares or 18.5 cm (last column), to finish with 3'' blocks (column "Unfinished squares").
The numbers in bold are important for the next steps.
If you do not wish to use this cutting method (8 HST at once), refer to the "Unfinished squares" column of the table, and cut your triangles so that block #1 (square made with 2 triangles) is the indicated size. I will not give instructions for any methods other than the one presented here.
With this method, there will be a few extra blocks, which will not be used for the top. 16 in all, all blocks combined. You can use them on the backing for example, or for another project.
Before cutting all fabrics, it is important to check that the measurements in the table above are suitable for you. They have been calculated with very little margin. You may be more comfortable with squares that are slightly larger than those indicated, and you will know this by doing a test, and you will be able to adjust if necessary.
Refer to the last column of the table, and cut 2 squares to the dimensions indicated. Use fabrics A and B, or other fabrics not selected for this pattern.
For example, for a lap size, cut:
1 square of 11'' or 27.5 cm in fabric A (or other)
1 square of 11'' or 27.5 cm in fabric B (or other).
Follow the instructions (see video) to trace and sew the 2 squares, right sides together.
Now that the 2 squares are sewn together with the 4 seams, just cut along the diagonals between the x seams, then exactly on the other 2 lines +; then press each bloc seam allowance to the darker fabric ; and square them to make them perfectly square, and to the exact measurements (see the "Unfinished squares" column of the table above, in our example of the Lap size, they will be 5'' or 13 cm once squared).
You can see I have very few leftovers once the block is squared. If you prefer, you can add a little more seam allowance when you cut the large square (1/4'' for example), but be careful with your fabric requirement!
So you need to cut 13 large squares per color, labelled A, B, C and D according to your fabrics.
Start by cutting a strip across the width of the fabric, from edge to edge (for example, a strip 11'' wide, or 27.50 cm, for a lap size), then cut this strip into squares (in our example, squares of 11'', or 27.50 cm), until you get 13 squares. Label and set aside.
Un peu d'organisation (encore) / Let's be organized (again)
Assemble 5 large squares of fabrics A and B, and after tracing, sewing, cutting, pressing (seam allowances towards the darkest fabric) and squaring, you will obtain 40 blocks #1 the size of the "Unfinished squares" column in the table above.

Bonne couture
