A casserole carrier is a great way to carry your dish when you're invited. And it's easy to make! 🥘

There are several patterns of carriers, they will carry just about any size dish you can find, from a pie to a 11'' x 14''dish. And they are reversible!
This one is simple, easy to make, and most of all, very effective.
I was inspired by Kerry King's tutorial.

For my two-tone casserole carrier, I cut :
  • in the blue printed fabric: two 12" squares
  • in the grey fabric: two 12" squares
  • in the solid blue fabric: one 22''square + two 3'' x 6'' strips + one 5'' x 21'' strip
  • in the batting: one 22'' square

After assembling the squares, the top is placed on the batting and quilted. The inside of the bag (the solid blue fabric) will be added later.
For the quilting, I opted for a simple square spiral, 1" from the previous seam. This is a good opportunity to take out the little bar on the sewing machine, which serves as a guide.

I forgot to take photos, but the next step is to layer the quilted top with the plain blue fabric, right sides together (the batting is all the way underneath, towards the outside).
Don't forget to sew the little strips lengthwise and turn them inside out, and then position them in 2 opposite corners (for me, in the grey corners). They will be caught in the seam of the lap.
Be careful to leave a small opening on one side to be able to turn the whole thing over, so the batting will be inside.

To close the little opening that was used to turn the whole thing over nicely, stitch close to the edge, all the way around. It also reinforces the little strips on the corners.

Final step: fold the large strip in half, unfold it and fold each half to the fold. Fold in half again, and sew close to the edge, with hems at the ends. This makes a strip folded in 4.
It can then be stitched flush with the 2 corners without strips, on the inside of the bag.
Tadaaa !

That's it! All that's left to do is put a pie or other dish in the middle of the bag, and take the large strip by its middle and pass it through one corner and then the other. Tadaaa!
The bag is reversible, so you can use all your favorite fabrics!
