Link party: Patchwork & Quilts #112 📌

Bonjour et bienvenue ici !
Good morning and welcome here!

✂️💖👸💖✂️

Everything is packed, my entire sewing room is under cardboard. Let's go for new adventures!
Last week I finished 60 blocks for a friend. We had started together, slowly, to make some of them. She's a beginner, and we took the time to break down the steps and plan what to do next. Except that life is often less peaceful than expected, and she didn't have the time to continue until the end. Before leaving, I offered her to finish them. Then she could assemble them.
My friend said yes, and so here I am with the blocks of her project.

C'est un modèle qu'elle a choisi dans mes revues Simply Moderne, "Grey as Well" du n°19 :
This is the pattern she chose from my Simply Moderne magazines, "Grey as Well" from #19:

I really like her choice, so it was a pleasure to finish the blocks! But for a first quilt, she didn't choose the easy way 😊
Quite a lot of small pieces for a block, and there are 60 in all...

I finally had the opportunity to use my new toy: the "Quick Cut" Thread Cutter (non-affiliate link) from Clover. Super handy after chain stitching, the intermediate thread is cut in a fraction of a second!
It's a rotary cutter blade that is inserted in a protective, stable case. It's placed on the table, and all you have to do is grab two sewn pieces, slide the thread that connects them into the notch where the blade is, a quick downward stroke, and you're done! All continuously sewn pieces are separated in no time.

💡 For those who don't know chain piecing: the principle is simple, it's about sewing pieces one after another in a long chain, with a continuous stitch, without lifting the machine foot or cutting the thread. Let the machine sew a few stitches in a vacuum before presenting the next pieces to be sewn.
In this way, all 60 blocks are built at the same time, in a chain.

Tadaaa !

Tadaaa! The blocks are then squared to make all 12,5 cm (5''). The expected seam allowance was a bit large considering the scraps...

J'aime bien !
Before giving her her blocks, I did a layout test. I love it!

  1. The finished block is only 5" big? Wow, that must have been a million tiny pieces. But I hope you enjoyed it - I love it when I have to chance to chain piece :) xo

  14. How sweet of you to help your friend Frederique. Those 5” blocks are gorgeous, but not a real beginner friendly project. It will be a beautiful first quilt though 😉
