Baby Quilt Plus (Positivity) 👶

Quilt Plus est terminé (et livré !)
Quilt Plus is finished (and delivered!)

This small quilt (28'' x 28'') is my contribution to the QAL Positivity by Preeti at Sew Preeti Quilts. The goal of this challenge was to donate the quilts made to Bernie at Needle and Foot, to benefit a charity in California, Mercyful Quilts. But for those who wanted to, especially Europeans, it was possible to donate them to another local charity of our choice.

All the fabrics are from my stash, the plus blocks are 7.5 inches square, and I wrote about my choices and adventures with the corners in this post!

I deliberately lightly quilted the little blanket, to keep it soft.
Quilting in-the-ditch with light green variegated thread for the plus blocks on a dark grey background, and the diamonds, as well as for the heart in the center.
Quilting in-the-ditch with white thread for the plus blocks on a white background.
That's a lot of thread to bury!

And that's it, no quilting in the negative space (the space left between the blocks) so the quilt doesn't look stiff. But since this is my first baby quilt, I don't know if this is a good idea or not.

For the backing, I chose this colorful fabric that I recently purchased. Dashes in pink, yellow and blue, I like it!

The binding is made of the same fabric as the backing. A long strip of 2.5" wide, double fold, and completely machine stitchedthe binding is sewn on the front, folded over in the back beyond the seam line, then sewn from the front, in-the-ditch.

The quilting around the plus doesn't show much on the back. Only the center lines stand out!
All quilting lines are two fingers spaced everywhere.

As I said above, this little quilt was intended for a baby, and it has already been delivered!
I don't know the baby, he is part of a premature baby unit, taken care of in the neonatal department.
The quilt will be a link between the little one and his parents during their visits, a cuddly toy that will be impregnated with their smells, a blanket that will protect him from the ambient light in the incubator, and will stimulate his senses. And he will take it with him when he leaves the hospital 💖

But before you go, would you please give me your opinion?
How is your quilting for toddlers: very little quilting, normally quilted, densely quilted?

This is such a pretty quilt, Frederique! Such a fun design and the backing fabric is fantastic. I think quilting in the ditch is an excellent idea. Such a beautiful quilty hug to both the baby and his parents.

Belle semaine, bisous.

Very pretty--I like the idea of minimal quilting for a soft baby quilt!

I love your baby version of the Positivity quilt, Frederique, and the heart quilted in the center is perfection.

Such a sweet baby version of Preeti’s design! I love it too! I do quilt for toddlers, babies and littles of all ages! I am of the age where I have nieces and nephews, great grandchildren, great nephews, grandchildren of friends! Lots of baby quilts! I have also donated to an organization here in the US called Jack’s Basket! jacksbasket.org.
That is an adorable quilt, Frederique! I love the happy colors and I think your quilting is perfect for a baby quilt. Someone is going to love it!

Bonne semaine, bises.

This is such a wonderful quilt. I love how you quilt the heart in the middle. We do really need to share love and joy more !

Just such a sweet quilt Frederique. I like to leave baby quilts soft and cuddly so I choose to not quilt them very densely. My motto is; less is more for babies! 😉

Sweet quilt. How nice that it is already in use!

Most of my small donation quilts for children get densely quilted because they get lots of use.
Lovely quilt for a baby! Yes that is a lot of threads to bury but a good quilting design. Thanks for sharing on Wednesday Wait Loss.

This is a beautiful little quilt, and what a great cause it went to! I'm sure both parents and the baby will love it. I love the heart in the center! For kids, I keep the quilting really simple and I always want it to be cuddly. I think your quilting is just right for the size of the quilt. Have a good weekend!
Oh so very sweet!!! Its so cute and it will definitely bring comfort to a baby and his parents!!!
What a darling baby quilt, Frederique!!

Frederique I love your plus quilt and the colors and the backing look great. I think your quilting is perfect, especially the heart in the center. What a comforting gift for the parents and the baby and so meaningful for years to come. Nice job!

Minimal quilting is perfect for a baby quilt for just the reason you mentioned - to keep it soft and pliable. I love the heart motif in the center. You have given the baby and parents a wonderful gift.

Beautiful quilt and the quilting on it is perfect. Depending on the batting requirements, I found that minimal quilting on a sturdy batting (like warm and natural) is perfect and do well with lots of laundering over time.... going on 13 years with almost daily washing for a year or two and still holding up great.

This is so sweet - I like how you adjusted the size for the tiny recipient. I think the idea of minimal quilting is perfect, making it much softer. Very nice!
Beautiful sweet quilt. I think you did a great job quilting it and picking out the colors. Thanks for sharing with Oh Scrap!

Such a sweet quilt! I think your two-fingers-apart quilting looks just right for a soft project for a wee baby. The most important thing is consistent spacing, and you achieved that.
Susan a dit…
Nice finish!
I think it can go either way. More dense quilting adds to the integrity of the quilt overall, supporting the seams. But too much quilting can make for a not-so-drapey final product. I think erring on the side of softness was the way to go here!
Bonne semaine :-)
