After a long, very long thought, I decided to quilt Vega.

It will be a spiral quilting design, I’ve been seeing it on the Internet for a while, and I like the effect. And for my quilt all in points, it will be a good pattern to round and soften it a little.I chose a blue grey thread in spool, and white in bobbin since the backing is mostly white.

Setting the machine, I start with small points: 1.5 at the very beginning for the first circle then 2.0 and 2.5 when the spiral widens.

Minimum speed, I start point by point at the beginning: a point + a rotation, a point + a rotation... yes it’s a bit long to start!

Do not forget the guide that goes well, and that keeps the same spacing between two spirals. Here I chose 3/4 inch (a little less than 2 cm).

The beginning is a bit complicated, despite the transparent foot I didn't see well the circle... which therefore is not round.
It's a fun quilting to make, the first 6 or 7 spirals require a lot of concentration and constant handling of the walking foot (lift every 2-3 points to rotate slightly) and of the quilt (it turns a lot!), but then it’s only happiness!

The spiral is probably my favorite way to quilt a project! You are right, takes a lot of concentration on the first two rotations but then it just goes! I love it! And even when I do a tight spiral, it doesn't take very long. This is beautiful!

I love the look spiral quilting can give to a top! Great tutorial of your method.
looking good. I tried a spiral once and it bunched up in the center and wouldn't lay flat I have not tried it since - I didn't use a walking foot though
Bisous

Très beau travail. Bises
I've spiral quilted a few quilts, and love the look of it! My first circle is never very round either. I think your quilting looks wonderful!

Those circles will look very pretty with all the points. You are doing a great job.

I like spiral quilting too, and have used this design a couple of times so far. As you know, starting the spiral can be a little tricky, but after the first few spirals is gets much easier. And I love the effect this quilting gives.

Hi Frederique! I really enjoy the look of a spiral quilting pattern, and have done it a few times. It looks like it was an excellent choice for this quilt top - I can't wait to see the full reveal. Thanks for linking up today! ~smile~ Roseanne

Trying out new techniques is always fun.
It often takes some time for the result to be 100% as you want, but with practice the result is great.
Lovely block.
Have a nice day!

Your spiral looks great! I, too, have admired this quilting technique but have been too afraid to try it myself. I worry that in all the twisting and turning of the quilt, I will get shifting of the layers causing pleats and puckers on the backing side. How did you do the basting for Vega, and did you do any marking at all or rely completely on that little guide bar on the presser foot? I'm looking forward to seeing the effect on the whole quilt when you've finished it!

You're spiral is looking great!
It looks great and better than what I could have done on a domestic.

I love spiral quilting, and crosshatch too.
Lovely spiral! And I think it will look wonderful on this quilt.
Hi Rebecca, I spray baste the quilt before quilting it, and it was so much easier this way. No pleats, no puckers, and the quit turns very smoothly around the needle. No marking except the very center and the first spiral (and beside my clear foot I wasn't able to stich right on the mark...) with a small stitch lenght. Then it's just following the previous stitched line with the guide bar, and regular stitch. Surprisingly quick and easy!
