La semaine dernière je vous avais montré le morceau de polaire jaune accroché au carré noir du tapis d'éveil. Le voilà transformé en soleil qui cache un miroir pour bébé :
Last week I showed you the piece of yellow fleece attached to the black square on the play mat. Now it has been transformed into a sun hiding a safe mirror:
Le miroir pour bébé est en carton, avec une face réfléchissante et une pellicule de protection. Il fait 10 cm (4'') de diamètre. J'ai cousu une longue bande de polaire (environ 36 x 2 cm, 14'' x 3/4'') pliée en deux autour du miroir, un peu à la façon d'un biais. Ce n'est pas parfait mais ça tient !
Après avoir cherché partout mon compas, j'ai fini par prendre un bol dans la cuisine pour tracer les deux faces du soleil 👇

La semaine dernière je vous avais montré le morceau de polaire jaune accroché au carré noir du tapis d'éveil. Le voilà transformé en soleil qui cache un miroir pour bébé :
The safe mirror is made of cardboard, with a reflective surface and a protective film. It is 4" (10 cm) in diameter. I sewed a long strip of fleece (approximately 14'' x 3/4'', 36 x 2 cm) folded in half around the mirror, a bit like bias tape. It's not perfect, but it works!
After searching everywhere for my compass, I ended up using a bowl from the kitchen to draw the two sides of the sun 👇
Now the fun begins! All the ribbons and rick racks in my sewing room are being auditioned for a variety of colors, sizes, and materials. There are velvet, organza, and satin ribbons, with patterns or plain, thick or very thin. I bought some of them specifically for this project, and others have been collected over many years. The rick racks were purchased in Tahiti in the 2000s, in the large haberdashery shop next to the Papeete market 😊
To make the mirror removable, it is held in place by a piece of Velcro: one side is sewn onto the block, the other is glued to the back of the mirror:
La partie amusante commence ! Tous les rubans et croquets de mon atelier sont auditionnés, pour une variété de couleurs, tailles et matières. Il y a ici des rubans en velours, organza, satin, avec des motifs ou unis, épais ou très fins. J'en ai acheté certains exprès pour ce projet et d'autres sont collectés depuis de nombreuses années. Les croquets ont été achetés à Tahiti dans les années 2000, dans la grande mercerie à côté du marché de Papeete 😊
Et voilà le soleil !
Here is the Sun!
Pour que le miroir soit amovible, il est tenu par un morceau de Velcro : une face est cousue sur le bloc, l'autre est collée au dos du miroir :
Une petite couture sur le bord du soleil pour pouvoir l'ouvrir...
A small seam on the edge of the sun so that it can be opened...
... ou le fermer !
... or closed!

Suite de ma veille des quilt alongs et autres blocs du mois proposés en ligne en 2026. La semaine dernière j'en ai repéré à nouveau 12, dont l'intrigant The Forgotten Rooms Quilt-Along de Colette Belt, et le premier bloc vient d'être découvert.

🎯 Je garde le même objectif cette année : faire de la couture deux jours par semaine, au moins 15 minutes à chaque fois. Je participe ainsi à "Stitching Stuff", organisé par Kate.
C’est un rythme qui me semble raisonnable et qui s’adapte bien à mon travail, aux entraînements sportifs et aux imprévus du quotidien. Toute journée supplémentaire sera du bonus !

🎯 I'm sticking with the same goal this year: sewing two days a week, for at least 15 minutes each time. I'm taking part in "Stitching Stuff" organized by Kate. It's a pace that seems reasonable to me and fits in well with my work, sports training, and the unexpected events of everyday life. Any extra days will be a bonus!
