Now that the Father's Day card has arrived, I can show it to you!
I started with a photo from 2016, and to get a better view of the mountain behind the tree, another taken in 2023. Even more recently, the flowerbed in front of the fir has evolved and is now a small hedge of fragrant lavender, but the poppies are still there!
Sur un support de molleton thermocollant, j'ai positionné le fond : la montagne au premier plan est faite de 2 chutes de tissu du quilt de ma soeur ainée, et le petit morceau vert en bas à gauche vient d'un ensemble de carrés utilisé pour le Petit chaperon rouge.

With a few explanations:
Je suis partie d'une photo de 2016, et pour mieux voir la montagne derrière le sapin, d'une autre prise en 2023. Plus récemment encore, le parterre de fleurs devant le sapin a évolué et c'est maintenant une petite haie de lavande parfumée, mais les coquelicots y sont toujours !
I started with a photo from 2016, and to get a better view of the mountain behind the tree, another taken in 2023. Even more recently, the flowerbed in front of the fir has evolved and is now a small hedge of fragrant lavender, but the poppies are still there!
On a fusible batting, I positioned the background: the mountain in the foreground is made from two scraps of fabric from my older sister's quilt, and the small green piece in the bottom left comes from a Charm pack used for Little Red Riding Hood.
Ensuite un point droit à la machine pour maintenir toutes ces pièces, chacune avec son fil assorti. J'ai cousu les pièces de haut en bas, en commençant par la montagne grise - la plus en dessous, pour cacher le départ de la couture sous la pièce suivante - et ainsi de suite jusqu'au petit triangle vert en bas.
Then a straight machine stitch to hold all these pieces together, each with its own matching thread. I sewed the pieces from top to bottom, starting with the grey mountain - the one furthest down, to hide the start of the seam under the next piece - and so on down to the little green triangle at the bottom.
Pour faire un bord moins lisse et plus "herbeux" le long de la pièce au pied du sapin, j'ai utilisé ce point de ma machine à coudre en forme de pyramides, avec un fil dégradé de verts. Pour la lavande, ce point hérissé peut faire penser aux tiges et aux fleurs 😊
Chaque coquelicot est une spirale serrée à la machine, en piqué libre.
To make a less smooth, "grassier" edge along the piece at the foot of the tree, I used this pyramid-shaped stitch from my sewing machine, with a variegated thread. For the lavender, this spiky stitch may remind you of stems and flowers 😊
Each poppy is a free-motion quilted spiral.
Et pour finir, le sapin ! J'ai pensé à Gwyned qui fait des tableaux textiles magnifiques en piqué libre, et sans avoir son expérience ni son talent, je me suis bien amusée ! Il y a 2 teintes de verts dans ce sapin, c'est assez discret mais peut-être les voyez-vous ? 👀
Le vert sombre a constitué l'ossature des branches, mais une fois terminé, il y en avait trop peu et mon arbre était un peu gringalet. Le 2e vert un peu plus clair a étoffé l'ensemble, en donnant une forme plus arrondie. On le voit un peu mieux au sommet du sapin.
And finally, the tree! I thought of Gwyned, who does magnificent thread painting quilts, and without having her experience or talent, I had a lot of fun! There are two shades of green in this tree, quite discreet but perhaps you can see them? 👀
The dark green provided the backbone for the branches, but by the time it was finished, there weren't enough and my tree was a bit grungy. The 2nd, lighter green fleshed it out, giving it a more rounded shape. You can see it a little better at the top of the tree.

🎯 J'ai modifié mon objectif cette année : je me fixe deux jours de couture par semaine, pendant au moins 15 minutes, et je participe à "Stitching Stuff", organisé par Kate. C'est moins ambitieux que les 3 jours de l'an passé, mais c'est bien plus raisonnable et surtout réaliste. Toute journée supplémentaire sera du bonus !
🠞 Cette semaine j'ai cousu ② jours. Je me suis bien amusée à réfléchir à la confection d'une nouvelle carte textile - le motif à partir des photos, les tissus, les fils, etc. - et à la coudre ! Je ne suis pas contente de la finition, le point de zigzag autour n'est pas très réussi...
This week's numbers:
🎯 I've modified my goal this year: I'm setting myself two days of sewing a week, for at least 15 minutes, and I'm taking part in "Stitching Stuff", organized by Kate. It's not as ambitious as last year's 3 days, but it's much more reasonable and, above all, realistic. Any extra day will be a bonus!
🠞 This week I sewed ② days. I had a lot of fun thinking up a new textile card - the design from photos, fabrics, threads, etc. - and sewing it! I'm not happy with the finish, the satin stitch all around, is not very nice...
