Quilting + Link Party Patchwork & Quilts #334 (Nov 07) 📌

Welcome to the weekly Patchwork & Quilts link party! The link is at the bottom of this post.

⭐⭐🧵⭐⭐

That’s it: I’ve started quilting the quilt for François (happy dance 💃)! My shoulder held up well, and I’m sure it’s a great muscle-strengthening workout 😋😉
I was thinking of starting by sewing each appliqué piece using free-motion quilting because there are quite a few tight curves.
Quilting en piqué libre, pas réussi... / Bad free-motion quilting...
Bof... / Hmm...

First attempt was unsuccessful: the quilt is heavy and large, and it’s not easy to handle - and besides, I don’t want to put too much strain on my shoulder either. Plus, in some places there are up to four layers of fabric plus fusible interfacing, and the machine is struggling a bit. Some stitches are skipping, in short, quilting with the sewing foot seems more suitable to me.

Mieux ! / Better!

For now, I'm sewing a straight stitch all around each piece, and it's starting to create a nice texture. Then I will see which areas need to be quilted more densely to make their neighbors stand out better.
At the rate I'm sewing, you are going to be hearing about this quilt for a while 😇

Youpi !

Past week's numbers and projections for the coming week:
🎯 I'm sticking with the same goal this year: sewing two days a week, for at least 15 minutes each time. I'm taking part in "Stitching Stuff" organized by Kate. It's a pace that seems reasonable to me and fits in well with my work, sports training, and the unexpected events of everyday life.
If I get the chance, I’ll make a list of priorities to tackle by next week, and that way take part in "To Do Tuesday" organized by Carol.
  🚩⏩ This week I sewed  ③ days!

Yay! In addition to starting the quilting, I’ve also calculated the number of blocks I’ll need (110) for my RSC 2027 project, the rainbow quilt for my sister (last week’s to-do list ✅). I just received the gray Silver Kona fabric that will serve as the background.
The France Patchwork guild project is starting to get urgent: the deadline is December 5!!😱 I’ve sketched out the blocks on paper, so I have a pretty good idea of where I’m going. The priority this weekend is to select fabrics that might make assembly easier.

This week’s to-do list:
📍Quilt for François: keep quilting!
📍Guild project: select the fabrics

🎯 2 jours/7 / 2 days/7 :

📆 Semaine dernière / Last week #45 ✅ (3/7) 👍
📅 Semaines en novembre / Weeks in November: 1/1
📊 Semaines en 2026 / Weeks in 2026 : 26/45

I'm doing a happy dance for you. So pleased that your shoulder has healed sufficiently to stitch again. I think forgoing the FMQ and letting the machine do the work of outlining your pieces was a wise and effective move.
