Link Party Patchwork & Quilts #331 (Oct 17) 📌💙

Welcome to the weekly Patchwork & Quilts link party! The link is at the bottom of this post.

⭐⭐💙⭐⭐

This week, all the action in my sewing room took place on the same day: it started with choosing and cutting the backing fabric for François’s quilt. Then, carried away by the momentum, I basted the quilt and even picked out the different threads for the quilting. I’m ready!

Yes, but here's the thing: on Monday, I went to have a calcification removed from the tendon in my right shoulder, and I spent the rest of the week using that arm as little as possible. The quilt is pretty big - and therefore heavy - so I couldn't see myself carrying all that weight with a fragile arm.

I took the opportunity to think about the quilting. I'm going to start with the appliqué. Then I'm thinking of either horizontal lines for the background - the sky and the water - more or less closely spaced, or swirls resembling clouds and ripples...

Here’s the latest update on my roundup of quilt alongs and other blocks of the month available online in 2026.
This week I found 7 of them, including My 90s Quilt organized by Molly Campbell. She's offering one free block per week, all based on a '90s theme. The first block is the cassette tape!

⭐⭐🎯⭐⭐

Past week's numbers and projections for the coming week:
🎯 I'm sticking with the same goal this year: sewing two days a week, for at least 15 minutes each time. I'm taking part in "Stitching Stuff" organized by Kate. It's a pace that seems reasonable to me and fits in well with my work, sports training, and the unexpected events of everyday life.
If I get the chance, I’ll make a list of priorities to tackle by next week, and that way take part in "To Do Tuesday" organized by Carol.
  🚩⏩ This week I sewed  ① day.

This week’s to-do list:
📍Rose quilt: think about the borders, should I add them or not? What if I put this project on hold and turned it into a medallion? Hmm, an idea worth exploring...
📍Quilt for François: start quilting!
📍New guild project: draw the needed blocks

So sorry to read that you are still struggling with shoulder pain. I applaud you for making as much progress as possible with François' quilt. I like your idea of quilting swirls in the background on his quilt. I love your idea of turning the rose quilt into a medallion. I hope your shoulder feels much better in a few days. Our body is amazing at healing. . .it takes time and patience though!

Very wise to play the long game and let your body heal. François’s quilt just gets better and better. However you eventually choose to quilt it, the quilt will be treasured for years.

I didn't realize just how big Francois's quilt was. Probably wise to give her shoulder some time to heal before starting the quilting. Using the rose as the center of a medallion quilt would be a fun, but it makes a nice wall hanging as it is. Looking forward to seeing which direction you decide to go.

I hope your shoulder is healing well. That quilt is beautiful. I look forward to seeing the quilting. I am sure that all of your pondering while you rest will help you decide on the appropriate quilting and the best way to use the rose.
I wish you a very speedy recovery, Frederique. I hope you are not in too much pain or discomfort. Having time to plan your quilting is nice though. You have chosen a lovely selection of threads to work with . Take care. Hugs.

Prends soin, bises

I hope your shoulder heals well and that you are able to get back to quilting your husband's quilt soon. It is such an interesting and beautiful quilt!
Your thread pull is beautiful!!! I hope and pray your shoulder recovers quickly, Frédérique. All that good rest should help.
Liz A. a dit…
Yeah, I'd take it easy, too, after that with your shoulder. Hopefully it heals up quickly.
