Véga spray basting

J'aime tout, absolument tout, sauf ça...
I love everything, absolutely everything, except this...

Quilt Celtique : vous voyez toutes ces épingles ?
Celtic Quilt: you see all those pins?

Basting!
I love doing all the steps of a quilt, from making the quilt top, to quilting, even the binding. But not basting. This is a step that I don't completely master, so the result doesn't always suit me, and I'm frustrated to make folds during the quilting.

So... I tryed the 505 spray basting method.

I used Christa’s tuto, who baste using a table.
The glue was applied in the garage (it was raining), on a clothesline. First the backing, then the quilt top. In between there was the smoothing of the batting over the backing, then the smoothing of the quilt top.
I wouldn't say it was super easy, I had to deal with fabric that kept sticking to itself, but I did it!

Bises

  3. Both the basting with pins and basting with glue are horrible jobs. I am not a fan of either, but alas, it has to be done. I prefer the glue basting method. Love your appliqued bird...'tis amazing! Thank you for sharing Christa's link.

  4. There's always that one thing that's an issue. For me it's blocking. I suppose practice would help. Glad it worked out for you.

  6. I know your struggle. Prior to getting my longarm I wouldn't attempt to quilt anything larger than a 36"-40" quilt on my domestic. Wish I could offer useful tips. It looks nice and smooth though.

  7. I am using 2x4's today to spray baste a quilt. The quilt will be shown on Friday's blog so check then for my photos on using boards to spray baste.

  8. Hi Frederique! The struggle with basting is real and I don't have any great suggestions for you. I've heard people say they tape the backing down on a table or floor, then spray, put down the batting and repeat for the quilt top. But who wants that spray fumes inside?! I'm glad you got it figured out. Thank you for linking up today. ~smile~ Roseanne

  9. I love your bird!

I am not a fan of spray basting...I always seem to make a mess! Actually, I don't like basting at all, but it is a necessary evil. :) I pin baste by clamping (or taping if my project is small) the backing to a table first. I posted how I do it on my blog if you want to see.
