Biscornu Pincushion

Depuis le temps que j'ai envie de refaire un pique-aiguilles, en voilà un en patchwork !
It's been a long time since I made my last pincushion, here is a new one!

Vous aurez reconnu la silhouette typique du biscornu, qui, comme son nom l'indique, est une forme irrégulière, présentant des saillies.
You will have recognized the typical silhouette of the biscornu, which is, as its name indicates it, an oddly shape, presenting projections.

Au départ c'est très simple : il suffit de 2 carrés de tissu, de dimensions égales. J'ai choisi de piécer celui du dessus. Les carrés font 12,5 x 12,5 cm.
First, easy, you just need two squares, equal size. I chose to piece the one on top. Squares are 5" x 5".

Marquer les milieux des côtés de chaque carré, ce sont des repères pour la couture par section.
Pin the centers of the sides, these are marks for sewing by section.

Commencer en plaçant endroit contre endroit les 2 carrés, décalés de telle sorte que le carré du dessus soit sur la moitié supérieure du carré du dessous (avec la photo c'est plus clair ;-))
Start by facing the squares right sides together, then offset the upper square by moving it upward until it's on superior half of the lower square (see the photo)

Maintenant, la couture à la machine ! Il va donc falloir faire 7 coutures (pas 8, il faut laisser une ouverture) en tournant le carré du haut pour que chacune de ses sections soit alignée sur celles du bas.
Now, time to machine sew! You will stitch 7 lines (not 8, leave an opening), twisting the upper square to match each section with the lower square.

  

1ère couture (section 1)

First line (section 1)

A la fin de la 1ère couture, lever le pied, aiguille en bas. 

Sans faire bouger le carré du bas, amener la section 2 pour qu'elle s'aligne avec le bord du carré du bas.

At the end of the first line, lift the presser foot, needle down.

Without moving the lower square, rotate the upper square so that the section 2 is aligned with the fisrt side of the lower square.

2ème couture (section 2)

Second line (section 2)

Continuer à coudre chacune des 7 sections, en laissant la dernière ouverte. Le tissu du carré du dessus sera un peu en tas, mais tout ira bien par la suite !

Continue this way until all 7 sections are sewn, leaving the last section open. The fabric you have already sewn will get bunched up while you are sewing, but everything will be fine at the end!

Et voilà la partie à la machine terminée ! Il reste à retourner le pique-épingles et à le bourrer.

Here we are! the sewing machine part is done. Now turn the pincushion right side out through the open side, and fill it.

Fermer l'ouverture à petits points, et coudre un bouton ou une perle au centre du biscornu, à travers le pique-épingles.

Hand-stitch the gap closed, then stitch a button or bead on the center of the biscornu, through the pincushion.

et voilà !
