Tapis d'éveil / Play Mats 👶👶

Deux tapis d'éveil pour 2 bébés 👶👶
Two play mats for 2 babies 👶👶

⭐⭐👶⭐⭐

Two babies were born in February, so they each needed a playmat! They didn’t have to be different, since one is going to my family and the other to François’s family, but I don’t like making the same thing twice 😁

Each play mat (47 x 47'') is inspired by children’s playmats, toys, and quiet books. The goal was to incorporate a variety of textures, colors, shapes, and sounds to stimulate our little ones, all while meeting safety standards.

I've posted every step of this project on my blog and written a tutorial for some items: just click the link below the image if you'd like to read or revisit the posts.
Matériel (anneaux, hochet, pouet, miroir, papier bruissant)
Accessories (rings, squeakers, rassel rattle, safe mirror, rustling paper)

I cut out a large central square measuring 24.5 inches (62 cm), two rectangles measuring 24.5 inches by 12.5 inches (62 x 31 cm), and eight squares measuring 12.5 inches (31 cm). Once the fabrics are arranged around the center, it’s time to have fun!
Eléphant à l'oreille bruissante / Elephant with a rustling ear

Papillon aux ailes bruissantes / Butterfly with rustling wings

Hochet souris / Mouse rattle

Oreilles de lapin / Bunny ears

Poisson tactile / Tactile fish

Méduse / Jellyfish

Etoile avec sifflet couineur / Star with squeaker

⭐⭐🧵⭐⭐

Before sewing the squares together, I arranged the ribbons, the ties for attaching the teething rings, and the other elements that needed to be incorporated into the seams around the center.
Each playmat has a double layer of thick batting, one quilted in-the-ditch on the top, and the second sewn to the backing fabric in a 12" (30 cm) grid pattern. The top and backing are then sewn together around the edges, right sides together, leaving an opening to turn them inside out.

When my children were babies , they enjoyed playing with a play mat. At the time, I purchased mine from the store. I had never thought of making one. Yours are adorable and there are so many fun activities for the little ones to enjoy. Well done! Thank you so much for sharing how you made them. I am sure the little ones love them.
Those playmates are the cutest ever! I love the sun!

Both play mats are such fun. Those are two lucky little ones to get such cool play mats from their aunt. It's been fun to watch how you tackle each element.

I adore these play mats. There are so many interesting items for the baby to explore.
Frederique, your play mat is so sweet. It will keep a baby entertained and curious for hours.
Merci beaucoup d'avoir lié au party I Quilted This! Bises

Such lucky and loved babes!! I like the additional elements you added since the last time I saw these. Really like the Jellyfish with the Minky body and Ric-Rac tentacles. You quilt the batting layers to the top and back but after you turn them out, do you stitch or tack them together any where else other than around the edge? Does the pre-quilting
keep the layers from separating and bunching after washing?

Hi Vivian, the two layers don't seem to be sliding over each other at the moment. I was unsure whether to tie them to the corners of the central square. What's bothering me is that these corners don't line up with the quilted grid on the back... But I'm keeping the idea in mind!
What wonderful playmats and so inventive too! I'm sure they will see lots of use. Thanks for sharing on my weekly show and tell, Wednesday Wait Loss.

These playmats are just the cutest, Frederique! I'm sure they will be very much enjoyed by the recipients. Thanks for sharing with us at Monday Musings. Have a great week.
