Geisha A Geisha B

Embellissements : visages brodés / embellishments: embroidered faces

Les visages des Geishas sont brodés, point droit et satin : Geishas' faces are embroidered, strait and satin stitch: Geisha A Geisha B

Geisha B : la main et l'éventail / the hand and the fan

Pour finir, la main est appliquée... (pas très réussie !!) At last, the hand is appliquéd... (not very well done!!) ... ainsi que l'éventail en relief. ... also with the folded fan. I sew each fold of the fan with small straight stitches. Geisha B is now nearly achieved, there are only embellishments left, before finishing the panel.

Geisha B : bloc 4 / block #4

La manche droite :  The right sleeve: Il est beau ce tissu pour le kimono, non ? This kimono has a nice fabric, no?

Retour en Polynésie Française / Back to French Polynesia

We just arrived in the Marquesas Islands after 24 days, sailing from Mexico (see my blog Croque Pomme ). The crossing was not very restfull, and I did nothing with my geishas. Hopefully, I did well before leaving!

Geisha B : bloc 2 / block #2

The head is my 2nd block, with hairs, the stuff in the hairs, hair sticks and the kimono's collar.

Geisha B : le kimono, bloc 1 / the kimono, block #1

As for the Geisha A, I draw the outline of the Geisha B on the foundation. But this one is not built like the other one, A, which had so definite blocks. The Geisha B is less easily fractionable. I start to join patches of the kimono's bottom and the belt one by one, then appliquéd them onto the foundation.

Geisha A : les mains / the hands

At last, hands are appliquéd, also with the stem of the future flowers. Geisha A is now nearly achieved, there are only embellishments left, before finishing the panel.

Geisha A : bloc 8 / block #8

La manche droite, tombante, est une grande pièce à appliquer : The right sleeve, falling, is a big piece to applique. La Geisha prend vie lentement ! J'adore ce tissu rouge en paysage. The Geisha is coming to life slowly! I really love this red landscape fabric.

Geisha A : bloc 7 / block #7

La manche gauche :  The left sleeve.

Geisha A : bloc 6 / block #6

La ceinture appliquée : The belt appliquéd

Geisha A : bloc 5 / block #5

2ème partie du bas du kimono : Second part of the bottom of the kimono.

Geisha A : bloc 4 / block #4

1ère partie du bas du kimono : Each block is built the same way: patches are joined one by one together, hand appliquéd, then the whole block is appliquéd to the foundation. First part of the bottom of the kimono.

Geisha A : bloc 3 / block #3

The head is made with hairs and hair sticks. I will embroider face's details later.

Geisha A : bloc 2 / block #2

J'ai appliqué le 2nd bloc, la partie droite du col : This geisha can be executed by blocks: the left part of the collar, the right one, the head, the bottom of the kimono in 2 blocks, and so on. I appliquéd the 2nd block, the right part of the collar.

Geisha A : réalisation du col, bloc 1 / making of the collar, block #1

Les pièces sont appliquées main : I start the first geisha beginning of march, but since I have an internet connection only now, here is my work in progress. On my foundation, I draw the outline of the first geisha, named A. What a terrible lack of poesy, as I could have named her the Lady in Red, the Flowers' Lady, or what else, but no: A! Ok. So I start to dress my beautiful Geisha A, with the kimono collar. Patches are hand appliquéd.

As soon as my Celtic quilt is finished and gave as a gift, I'm preparing a new exciting project: a folding screen composed by 3 panels, with 2 geishas. This quilt was found in the magazine Burda Patchwork #11. Pour suivre l'évolution du paravent : To follow the making in progress: Geisha A : réalisation du col, bloc 1 / making of the collar, block #1 Geisha A : bloc 2 / block #2 Geisha A : bloc 3 / block #3 Geisha A : bloc 4 / block #4 Geisha A : bloc 5 / block #5 Geisha A : bloc 6 / block #6 Geisha A : bloc 7 / block #7 Geisha A : bloc 8 / block #8 Geisha A : les mains / the hands Geisha B : le kimono, bloc 1 / the kimono, block #1 Geisha B : bloc 2 / block #2 Geisha B : bloc 3 / block #3 Geisha B : bloc 4 / block #4 Geisha B : la main et l'éventail / the ha

Celtique : le voici terminé ! / it's finished!

My quilt is in a very good place in the living room of my mum-in-law, Claudine. The making of Celtic: all the posts are here .

As my quilt is not flat, I sew a thread of leads nside the binding, following the advices of my friends from the quilting club of Béthune.
